Restarting My Family Photography Business After Three Years
Finding My Passion Again

In June 2022, I left Hong Kong, where I had lived for five and a half years, and moved back to the U.S. with my three children. After spending three months in Michigan, we settled in Indiana.

Starting a new life in a new place with my kids, I knew I couldn’t go back to work right away. I needed time for my family and myself to adjust. The first months were not easy—everything was different, and we had to find a new routine. But this time also gave me a chance to slow down and think about what is really important to me.

When I was in Hong Kong, I joined the Tsumugu 365 Project, a Japanese photography project about capturing and keeping everyday moments. In my second year, I became a moderator, and I saw many beautiful daily photos taken by other mom photographers. Through this experience, I learned to love the small moments of daily life—the little things that we often forget.

After moving to Indiana, I was very excited to restart my photography business. But as I spent time taking pictures of my own family, I started to see photography in a new way. I realized that I don’t just want to take nice pictures—I want to capture real and meaningful moments. I want my photos to tell a story, show emotions, and keep memories that feel true and natural.

Going forward, I want my photo sessions to be more than just taking pictures. I want families to feel comfortable, to enjoy the moment, and to be themselves in front of the camera. I love storytelling photography—not perfect poses, but real smiles, natural interactions, and the special connections between family members. A mother’s gentle touch, a child’s big laugh, or a quiet moment between loved ones—these are the moments I want to capture.

After three years of thinking and growing, I feel ready to start again. This time, I know more clearly what I want to do, and I am excited to take pictures that are full of life and love.

These are the kinds of moments that inspire me now.

I can’t wait to capture these beautiful moments for families again. If you’re looking for a family lifestyle photographer in Indiana who values real, heartfelt storytelling, please fill out my contact form – I’d love to connect with you!
